Shopee vs Lazada: Where Are Deals Better?

Short answer

Neither Shopee nor Lazada is always cheaper. Shopee tends to win on everyday vouchers and breadth; Lazada's LazMall is strong for brand authenticity. The real answer is to compare the same item, with vouchers and shipping, on both apps before buying.

“Shopee or Lazada — which is cheaper?” is the wrong question, because the honest answer is it depends on the item. Both are large, reputable marketplaces in Singapore, and the better price swings seller by seller and voucher by voucher. Here is a neutral way to think about it.

They are more alike than different

Both platforms run promotions around the same double-digit sale dates (9.9, 10.10, 11.11, 12.12), though campaign periods and offers differ. Both lean heavily on stackable vouchers and free-shipping vouchers, and both host a mix of independent sellers and official brand stores. So the mechanics of getting a good price are similar on each.

Where each tends to shine

This is a general pattern, not a guarantee — always verify for your specific item:

Card comparing Shopee and Lazada general tendencies

General tendencies, not guarantees.

  • Shopee is known for very frequent vouchers, coins and a broad, deep marketplace, which can make everyday small buys cheap if you collect vouchers.
  • Lazada has LazMall, which brings together brand owners, authorised distributors and verified sellers with an authenticity promise — reassuring for higher-value or easily-counterfeited items, though a brand or manufacturer warranty is not automatic for every listing.

Neither advantage is absolute. A specific seller on the “weaker” platform can easily beat the other.

How to actually compare

The only reliable method is a like-for-like check:

  1. Find the exact same item (same model, capacity, colour) on both apps.
  2. Claim available vouchers on each before comparing.
  3. Add shipping — a free-shipping voucher can flip the result.
  4. Note the seller rating and whether it is an official store.
  5. Check the “usual price” is genuine — under the CCCS guidelines, a strike-through should reflect a bona fide previous price.

Check who the seller is

Your protections under Singapore’s Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, including the Lemon Law, depend mainly on the seller and the transaction rather than the app. The Lemon Law generally covers consumer purchases from businesses in Singapore, but not consumer-to-consumer sales, and obtaining redress from an overseas seller can be difficult. Each platform’s own return and dispute rules can also differ, so keep your order records and chat logs in case you need to raise a dispute. The bottom line

Don’t pick a platform; pick a price. Compare the same item on Shopee and Lazada, with vouchers and shipping included, and buy wherever the genuine final checkout price is lower. Treat “Shopee is always cheaper” (or the reverse) as a myth.
